Drops: Erik Sanders

By Andrew Brassington

Brisbane rapper Erik Sanders has dropped his latest single ‘In The Air’, our first taste of new music since ‘Across The Globe’ was released back in December.

‘In The Air’ features Australian hip hop connoisseur Allday spitting fire on a guest verse. The pair shared a photo on social media whilst working on this jam barely two weeks ago.

The song begins with a series of pitched beeps reminiscent of video game music or opening an old Windows computer. This melodic motif doesn’t feel clichéd or overdone, it feels fresh and vibrant. And luckily it sits back well in the mix so it don’t get in the way of the vocals when they come in a few bars later.

Straight away Erik Sanders proves himself as one of Australia’s artists to watch for 2017 with his sharply delivered rhymes. It’s hard to believe he’s only 20 years old. He continues these through the pre-chorus leading to a build-up which evolves into a summery chorus you can move your body to. Some tropical vibes even burst through.

Allday’s verse is a highlight for me, containing some of the greatest lyrics I’ve heard recently including the line “I like the beach but I’m drowning” which really stands out as a metaphor of self and how some things we fall in love with can end up being drastically toxic and unhealthy.

‘In The Air’ is definitely one of the grooviest Aussie rap songs of the year so far. I’m excited to see where Erik goes next. You can catch him supporting Midas Gold at Black Bear Lodge in Brisbane on the 17th of February, and see Allday right around the country at Groovin The Moo (whose spectacular line-up dropped this morning and you can read about here.)

You can hear ‘In The Air’ below.

  1. Hello, i read your blog from time to time and i own a similar one and i was
just curious if you get a lot of spam feedback? If so how
do you reduce it, any plugin or anything you can advise?
I get so much lately it’s driving me crazy so any
    assistance is very much appreciated.

    • Hey, I dont get much spam myself although, theres a word press spam stopper that already does it for you. It just doesn’t tell you. Currently I am also using a setting that allows me to check comments before they are posted incase they are spam. maybe play around with those settings
